Mathias Duplessy
La La La
Chris Webby
This track has one of the most well known back beats and I can't help but grin, a-really-big-grin, during the entirety of this number. La La La La La.
Jazzmatazz
George Duke
Jazzmatazz represents the evolution of George Duke. The concoction of genres on display in this number, are blended into a timeless piece, that anyone with a musical bone in their body can and should enjoy.
Trying to pick out a single track from DreamWeaver, to share with y'all here, was quite a task. I both love and recommend the entire album as a whole. If you need your spirits lifted, throw it on sometime. Guaranteed to put a smile on your dial.
One Minute After Midnight
Lakeside
From the funky bass slaps to the chewy improv center, One Minute After Midnight roars from a truly free spirited time in music.
I Love Work
Butterfingers
The art of funny, relatable story telling over a fun beat, couldn't be presented that in I Love Work.
Upon hearing Butterfingers for the first time, I remember a strong feeling of, "Wow this jam feels gooey!" A decade on and the only time I've recaptured that 'different' feeling was with cutting edge Slam Metal; not the sort of stuff I want to share here on ChoofTop. Suffice to say Butterfingers have a unique style that makes them feel like a needle in a haystack.
If their sound has piked your curiosity neurons, I'd recommend checking out their Breakfast At Fatboys album. I went through that album several times a day, over several days, trying to find a track I thought you would all be able to enjoy. :~)
Autumn Leaves
Damian "Jr Gong" Marley
Surreal sound you'd expect to hear if you could cut one of Jah's veins and listen to the blood pour out. Suffice to say I immediately fell in love with Autumn Leaves.
The first time I was exposed to Jr Gong's music was back on the Distant Relatives album. Then having thoroughly enjoyed going through his body of work, reaching this new Stony Hill album, well I couldn't help but play it on loop.
Autumn Leaves makes me happy Bob Marley had kids. I think it has to be one of the most timeless, captivating tracks I've ever heard. Just an incredible experience I recommend everyone should take the time to enjoy.
Into Dust
Mazzy Star
This marvelous piece of music transcends life. It feels like a moment in time. A moment you're in the midst of. A moment where you can unwind and just lather up in as much of the beautiful cotton ball energy as you're able to absorb.
The first time I heard Into Dust I was reminded immediately, of the opening theme tune to the Bloodline TV show. It felt so familiar I went looking to see the difference between the songs. Judging by various other comments on the net, I wasn't the only one who'd noted the similarity.
Mazzy Star lovingly released Into Dust almost two decades ahead of Book of Fears inception, whom eventually went on to make The Water Lets You In (Bloodline Theme). I'd wager a bet that Mazzy Star and more so her song, Into Dust, was a huge inspiration not only to Book of Fears, but to other bands both already active and still yet to come.
